In recent years, the biomass energy of wood coal has been developed in Cheng de City, Hebei province. It can make straw into treasures, to realize the win-win solution of ecological efficiency and economic efficiency. The coal of straw pellet compressed by the straw pellet mill is like below:



According to information, the wood coal means it takes various kinds of crop straw, wood processing wastes, grass and firewood of shrub and cutting fruit tree residues etc as raw material, to form into biomass pellet fuel after crushing, drying and compressing by the pellet mill.

Zheng Xuebi, Secretary of Chengde municipal Party committee said that Chengde city has high forest cover rate and the production of firewood and agricultural straw is stable, following with the development of fruit tree industry especially. The wood coal can replace of traditional coal fuel, to resolve the air pollution of coal in urban and rural area, which has big significance to improve the local hazy weather.

Wang Heguo, the Section Chief of energy department of Municipal Development and Reform Commission in Chengde introduce that there are about 35 enterprises which take advantage of biomass energy in Chengde city and the production capacity is up to 6.5 million ton, which can replace of 32.5 ton of standard coal, to increase the farmer’s input while cut down expenses of about 0.13 billion and decrease the carbon emission of about 8.45 million ton.
At present, the "wood coal" is mainly sold to Beijing, Tianjin, Inner Mongolia, Guangdong and other regions, and it has exported to Korea, Japan and other countries.

In 2014, Chengde has promoted about 52600 suit of biomass cooking and heating stove, it has become the biomass heating demonstration area. It is expected that the utilization rate of straw in Chengde will reach 95% or more this year. With the improvement of the living standards of rural residents, the demand for new type of energy are expand, to strengthen the environmental protection, and cope with global climate change strategically. Biomass solid forming pellet fuel has become a very competitive alternative energy sources with the potential for development. It has the advantages of convenient storage and easy transportation etc, which can not only used for rural households for cooking and heating energy, but also can be an alternative fuel for industrial boilers and power plant to replace of fossil fuels like coal, natural gas and oil etc. It is one of the important development directions of the utilization of biomass energy.
