Differences between ring die pellet mill and flat die pellet mill

In order to understand the differences between flat die pellet mill and ring die pellet mill, we’d better understand the definition of wood pellet mill. Sawdust pellet mill is a kind of equipment being used to compress raw material with certain moisture content into once-molded cylinder or briquettes. It has the features of feeding with moisture content and outlet without moisture content, molded with compressing force, all the working procedures are completed within the enclosed body of machine. Sawdust pellet machine is adopt mechanical drive system and need to be provided with lubrication system to ensure the normal operation of the equipment.

Along with the development of science and technology, sawdust pellet mill is developed with various types. It can be divided into ring die pellet mill and flat die pellet mill. At the mention of differences between ring die and flat die, we’d better understand working principle of each of them and find out the distinction between them. 
 
Work principle of flat die pellet mill: sawdust pellet mill work on the basis of circular movement, taking motor as the main driving force of normal operation of sawdust pellet mill, belt pulley or gear is driving by rotation, which drive the principle axis to rotate. With the rotating of principle axis and plate of flat die, under the effect of frictional resistance, roller begins to rotate comparatively, extruding the feedstock into briquette that conforms to our required mold. Different lengths of final product could be achieved through adjustment of the cutter’s positions. After series of procedure, final product is out to the outlet through the force of outlet plate, and the whole procedure is completed.
 
Work principle of ring die pellet mill: feedstock is being transmitted from feed inlet to the material container under the centrifugal force and feedstock is being swung to inside walls of roller of ring die pellet mill. Thus an evenly circular layer is formed, and the circular layer is being driven to the contact surface of die and roller. Through reciprocal compression force of roller and die, feedstock is compressed into our required models. The final product is change into pellet with equal length through adjust the cutter to conform our demanding length.

After knowing the work principle of each type, let’s talk about the differences and identical parts.
1. Feeding style: ring die pellet mill adopt mechanical way of feeding which is a little bit inflexible. And the feedstock is not equally distributed completely to achieve an ideal statement; a scraper is being used to distribute the feedstock equally. For flat die pellet mill, materials depend on its own weight dropping into the pelletizing chamber with evenly distributed and good effect. 
 
2. Ways of outlet: Ring die pellet mill is rotating with high speed, and broken ratio of outlet is high. While flat ring die belongs to low speed rotate with low broken ratio.
 
3. Pressure: under the same diameter of mould, roller of ring die pellet mill is restricted by the diameter of die, so dose with the force of pressure. Diameter of flat die is not restricted by the diameter of die and it could enlarge the space of inner space of bearing. Choosing a big bearing could strengthen bearing force of a roller. It could not only improve the roller force but also prolong service time. 
 
4. Pattern of adjustment of roller: ring die pellet mill adjust the pressure through two screws on the eccentric gear which located at the center of roller; flat die pellet mill adopt screw post m100 as the center of adjustment system, with hundreds of tons of jacking pressure, stable falling down, soft hitting, evenly pressure. It adopts adjustment way o f rotating manual operation and automatic hydraulic pressure.

Ring die, namely the pelletizing mold, is the core of pellet mill or even the heart of a pellet plant. Ring die, the honeycomb prototype will greatly influence capacity of pellet mill and pellet quality, output and performance. According to statistics, ring die maintenance usually accounts for 25% of total maintenance expense for a complete pellet plant.
