How to check the quality of wood pellets

Wood pellet stoves are clean-burning and efficient, but the quality of the pellets matter. How to judge the quality of wood pellets in the process of production? It is not clear simply judge from the size, color, density of the pellets. In the following we will talk about the specific testing method.

Wood Pellets

1. Check the smell
Put the finished wood pellets in a plastic container, then close to the mouth of the container to smell its taste. If it is the smell of pure wood chips and not mixed with other flavors, then it shows that the ash content of wood pellets is lower.
2. Check the color
Generally speaking, the quality wood pellets is in light brown. If the color is dark brown, which may show that the pellet is made of the bark, the ash content will be higher in combustion. In addition, if the external color of the wood pellet is deeper than the color of the interior, it indicates that the wood pellets may be composed by the sawdust, so its ash content will be lower.
3. Check the combustion conditions
If the smell of wood pellets burning is not like burning wood, it may contains other impurities.
4. Check the dissolution
Put proper amount of wood pellets into the cup with water, when the wood pellets begin to dissolve, then turn the cup. If there are a large number of pellets sink to the bottom quickly, it shows that there are some impurities in the wood pellets.
