Go Greener with KMEC Biomass Pellet Mill & Pellet Plant

The global wood pellet market is expected to grow by 14.1% per year

According to market research firm Market Research Transparency expects, the global wood pellet market for power plants and heating will grow by 14.1% per year in 2023 to reach the value of 20073 million euro.

In the past few years, due to the implementation of strict emission standards in Europe and the United States, the output of wood pellet increased significantly. The advantages of high energy density and easy to get would help wood pellet to enter the international trade market.

As greenhouse gas emissions (GHGs) has been increasingly concerned, it promotes the utilization of wood pellet as a substitute for fossil fuels for heating and power generation.

In 2014, the United States and Canada are the main exporters of wood pellet, while other countries in Russia, the Asia Pacific region and South America are expected to become the leading exporters of wood pellet soon.

Wood Pellet Plant

A wood pellet plant with the production capacity of 500,000 ton at Sims, NC and its receiving, storage and shipping infrastructure at the Port of Morehead City will be in construction in the summer of 2015 and shipping in the fall of 2016. The Port facility will include 80,000 tons of dome storage, rail and truck receiving and 1,200 T/H of ship loading capacity. The pellet plant will produce industrial grade fuel some months of the year, and "thermal" EN+1A product other months, which is why the storage facility will include two 40,000 ton domes and provide the flexibility to store low-ash biomass fuels for seasonal "just-in-time" supply.

Portucel Group plans to invest $110 million to build a wood pellet manufacturing facility in Greenwood, SC. The plant will produce 460,000 tons annually. Portucel's facility will be located in the Emerald Road Industrial Corridor. The company expects to create 70 jobs. The Coordinating Council for Economic Development in South Carolina has approved a $150,000 grant to assist with the costs of road, site and infrastructure improvements as well as job development credits related to the project.

Industrial wood pellet production plants and marine export terminals are planned to develop in the Southeastern U.S., which will include an investment of up to $320 million in Enviva Wilmington Holdings, LLC and the construction of an industrial wood pellet plant in Sampson County, NC, and a marine export terminal at the Port of Wilmington, NC.

Compared with other conventional fuels (such as natural gas), the cost of wood pellet is lower.

In 2014, the power plant is expected to consume about 800 thousand tons of wood pellets each year.

Wood pellet used for regional industrial heating is generally traded worldwide, including exporters of the United States, Canada, Australia and South Africa, while wood pellet for residential heating is a regional transaction.

The quality requirements for industrial wood pellets are different from those used in residential buildings, which are largely determined by logistics equipment and combustion technology.
